Fristo handbags ~ A boon to all womenfolk

For many days, I was thinking about buying a handbag that’s worth every penny. No need to say anything new about why I needed it. As we all know, women’s best companions are handbags and agree or not, I am a woman. The reason why I wanted to replace with a new one is that my old handbag is very small and it did do some good as long as it was with me but wasn’t enough. The thing is, for the past few weeks there has been a heavy rise in necessity to travel long distance. It’s been a very hectic affair.

Seems to me for this whole year, travelling will become a part of my life and I can’t blame. I have to get used to it. So I was searching for a handbag to carry everything from pen to water bottle. After weighing the pros and cons, moreover, satisfied with the price, quality and color of the handbag, I selected the below one without having second thoughts getting the better of me.

A little confession. I read the reviews of this product on e-commerce sites. Truly that didn’t affect or motivate me from buying. The choice was absolutely mine. I just wanted to test whether this handbag is made for me for it captured my eye on the first glance and I was impressed with the size and the color too. I also had another option that is to return this product immediately if it didn’t live up to my expectation.

So here am I to tell you the tale of my love of the product as soon as I opened it. The shocking part (in a pleasant way) is that I got it for filthy cheap and it looks perfectly fine just like in the picture. I made a comparison of all the other bags of Fristo and I feel proud to have zeroed in on this one. The cost of the bag puts a smile on my face. It’s a steal not a deal.

If you are an office going woman or a college student or just travelling long hours, this is a must have. You can carry food, water bottle and everything else. It has two interior big pockets and on the front side, there is a small pocket and inside the big pocket, there is a small pocket. The handbag is trendy and stylist, pretty to look at. I have no complaints. It fulfills my every need. No doubt, it will be useful for the rest of my life.

My verdict

Fristo Grey and Black women handbag (FRB-023)(Gray and Black)Fristo Women's Handbag (FRB-019, Purple and Beige)Fristo Women's Handbag (FRB-020, Black and Red)

If you compare with other Fristo handbags of this same design, you will know why I am giving a positive review for this one. I also like the color blue and maroon. Simple and elegant. You can arrive at a conclusion, this was the major reason for buying this product no need to repeat the value it holds. The rest of the colors are not made for me and they are much costlier though that's not part of the reasons for buying this. The quality is sure the same but there is a small or huge difference in the price and I don't like the other colors.

The review

 Story 1

The keeper of the western door is intriguing and heartwarming. This is the first story in the Calico ball anthology and the author, Carla Kelly's way with words is so mature and close to perfection, there is not a single place in which I felt displeased with her writing. I have become addicted to the story and I can't forget the romance element of the novella that I kind of became a slave to it. It is a clean romance with no serious sexual tension between the main characters that doesn't surprise me as it is a historical fiction. To include a fact, there is gentleness and delicacy in the way they show their love and share their feelings they have for one another.

Mary Blue Eye is a Seneca Indian. She comes to the west to help her newly wed friend only to find she doesn't treat her as one rather like a slave to do all the household chores a servant would be asked to do. Two senior officials wives Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Stanley need someone to make 14 calico dresses for the Calico Ball to raise fund for people who lost their homes in the great Chicago fire. They demand Victoria Masterson, her ex-friend and now her master who is also the wife of a junior officer to make Mary stitch the dresses. Mary has to obey them and she is not an unkind person to refuse no matter whether she doesn't really want to oblige the snobbish wives order because of the way they treat her . The story about the spider triggers emotions. Only when Mary compares herself to the spider after that, I was able to understand the truth in it.

Sergeant Rowan Blade is a compassionate man with overflowing goodness for the less fortunate and the unfortunate. I liked how he comes to rescue Mary at odd times when she needs it the most and the best part is she doesn't even ask. Mary captures the heart of the readers like me with her kind, charming behavior and she finds good friends for this quality of hers in the book. I loved the way Mary hugged the crying Rowan and calmed him down. Both deserve each other. I also loved how Mary was proud of her family heritage particularly the way she said to people about her father who is a graduate and worked as a secretary was spot on. The keeper of the western door is unique with superior content but ends quick. Did Mary stitch the dresses within the stipulated period of time? Who all became her friends? Did she stitch a dress for herself to go to the Calico Ball with Rowan? What happened to his love? Did she leave him for her home? Read the book, you will know. Don't forget, this is a must read story. There are plenty of reasons to buy this book.

Story 2 : A convenient arrangement

What should I say about this very compelling and delightful read? Mirabelle Smith is one lovely lady. Behind her smiling, admirable face, a massive layer of sadness and the yearning for a loving family is hidden. She is just a mail order wife and her marriage to Quinn is made of mutual convenience. No crossing boundaries. No emotional or romantic attachment. That is what Quinn ordered. She does her work and he does his.As long as they do this, they are good. But a woman has feelings, right? She has a heart and she can’t live with a man and her Da, her entire life with an absence of slightest hint of love and affection. How could she ever survive the place and make herself comfortable especially her Da seems very challenging to live with? No appreciation of her work but just complaints. Will her efforts to make them her family go in vain?

When Quinn first met his soon to be wife, he was shocked. She is merely 4 feet 11 inches. When she speaks he couldn’t except wonder she is anything but tiny. I loved the confidence in Mirabelle.  His new husband’s body structure resembles like that of Goliath and he stands tall 6 feet 3 inches even without his shoes on. Does she feel intimidated? No, not really.  She is a bit scared inside. Gladly, she doesn’t show. Quinn has seen his Da suffer for the immense love he had towards his mother. That will not happen to him. Mirabelle is just a mail order wife or is she more than that? I loved how she made Quinn smile wider when she told him she got things from Mr. Carlton, the shopkeeper for lower price. Nobody could ever bargain with him as per Quinn. Author Sarah M. Eden knows how to write humor and she has used it best to her full advantage. I am now a fan of her writing style. This book is not just a one time enjoyable read.

The first half of the story was full of humor and I laughed so much at Mirabelle’s jokes. She tries hard to fit in and make Quinn understand her and be her friend at least. Does she fail? Read the book to know. Her pain as an orphanage girl ache for a loving family, a caring and empathetic husband, and friends to chat over coffee or tea were all the comforts a simple woman could ask for. It is reasonable, right? The final part of the story was rushed I feel still it was best in some way. There is no flaw in the story as per my view. For a short novella, the author has done justice and I cannot ask for more. The story gave my heart contentment. I have never heard of mail order brides until now. In the 18th century, this was famous in the west I guess. More men but few women existed to marry so the men order wives far from their home. In this story , Calico ball brings Quinn and Mirabelle closer and make Quinn finally understand and reciprocate her love. His Da is not hard hearted after all. A convenient arrangement is one of the best historical romances I will treasure in my heart and I am sure, this story will linger on my mind for a long time.

Story 3

Isabella’s calico groom had an entirely different feel to it than the above two novellas. How yesteryear women professionals had to deal with the firmly established male chauvinistic society who never wanted self-assured women earning all by herself as a wife then think about their fate competing with them. What a massive threat to their existence and most of all their pride they saved for generations! A woman always have to be less educated than a man and she must not do double jobs. Home must be where her heart is, not an office. She must cater all to their needs and that of their children’s without having any distractions. In all countries, this was the main problem. This thinking by men is considered appropriate even today in many parts of the world. Who was/were responsible for cultivating this unwise thoughts is not clear. Can’t a woman work simultaneously and also be a good wife to her husband and take on the responsibilities of a loving mother? Does doing household chores all the time is a woman’s only business?

I was astonished immensely by the fact Dr. Isabella wore new dresses every day to her office and wondered like Dr. Henry but a little differently like, how could she have managed to buy herself new dresses despite her demanding work as a successful dentist?. Did she spend all the money on her dresses and accessories? When the secret was revealed, it was something I did not expect. Even a successful career and a modest family background cannot buy respect a woman deserves is a lesson I learnt through this book. A good percentage of men all over the world consider women as nothing but objects that arouses them sexually. Now it is time, all woman also consider men as sexual objects. All patients including many men are her clients because they want a women’s touch. Dr. Henry who was once her enemy comes to her rescue and they both work together to make a difference and Isabella pays him to be her protector. I enjoyed greatly the news of the dentistry and Dr. Isabella’s love for intellectually stimulating conversations with him and his appreciation for her. A man who considers a woman his equal intellectually is rare even today. In a turn of events, he acknowledges her as the best problem solver than him and realizes she is not like Leonara, his classmate for whom he had feelings.

Dr. Isabella learns Dr. Henry may be the right man for her and she also feels quite sure about it. However, he is muddled by his growing love towards her. A decent man does not walk away. This realization hits him and he realizes he is a coward. How did Dr. Isabella prove she is different from the woman he had pictured on his mind? What painful secrets Dr. Henry hides in his heart?  How did he propose to Isabella after declining her love? Will Isabella accept him and tell him he is not a coward? Narrow minded men like Fisher and Isabella’s brother-in-law are the reasons why women are always treated in an ill manner and are largely considered a baby making machines and robots doing the household chores within the four walls of their house. Women also feel discouraged at the ogling stares of wicked men and feel scared to come out of their homes for their safety is questioned. Now this has improved more to women’s displease in a country like India where women have to do household chores as well as must work in the office and support their home and also manage men with ogling stares. The book delivers a good social message and I will give a thumbs up for this to the author.

Excerpt:

“So, Evan, huh?” I blurted out, when I found her in the kitchen, snacking on chips.
“Don’t even start. I don’t know what your sister was thinking.”
“You both looked awful cozy in there.” I winced, noting the jealous tone. Jane wasn’t mine, and I hadn’t done anything to change that.
“Real cozy.” Jane’s sarcasm lifted my spirits. “I love Sarah, but sometimes she makes it hard for me to remember that.”
“Yeah, she can be a handful.” I wasn’t happy with this setup, either, but if it gave me time with Jane now, I wasn’t going to complain.
”If Evan puts his arm around me once more, I might punch him.” That mental image plastered a smile on my face.
“So why did you agree to this ‘date’ if you don’t like the punk?” Must be a loaded question, because Jane turned a cute shade of pink as she fidgeted with her sleeve.
“I don’t really know. Sarah thought it would be a good idea, and then she made me read a magazine article on how to make him like me. I don’t even want him to like me.”
That sounded like Sarah, all right.
“So, what are you supposed to be doing to get him to like you?” I couldn’t help myself. Her fidgeting and blushing were too tempting to leave it alone.
“I’m supposed to flirt. But I think he’s doing enough of that for the both of us.” She huffed and averted her gaze.
“Does it make you uncomfortable when a guy flirts with you?” I closed the distance between us and leaned into her personal space. The nearness forced her gaze up. She looked confused, like she was trying to figure me out.
“No, just incensed.” Her voice came out breathless.
“Incensed?” I raised my brows. Her choice of word had me smiling, but not backing off.
“You know what it means.” She caught on to what I was doing.
“Am I annoying you now?” I raised my hand and rested it on the cabinet, right next to her head. She gulped but didn’t move to push me back. Her eyes dipped down to my lips. “Are you irritated, Jane?” I whispered, so close I felt her breath fanning my face. Her hand came up to rest on my chest, my muscles tightening under her touch.

My review

I haven’t read author G. G. Vandagriff’s other novels and ‘Breaking news’ isn’t what I expected from her as she is not an amateur writer. Despite this fact, I would say the novel is an amusing, good read although not the best. Shortly, I started reading the first chapter, I felt there is something lacking. This feeling lasted even after I completed reading the book. The main character is unreal.  There must be existence of an emotional scene rather it is practical with no serious crying involved at the loss of a loved one. The saddest part is, it is written in a funny manner (in my opinion). Anyhow, I did not mind this as the novel moves fast, thus I finished it in two sitting. If I didn’t start the book at night, I may have finished it sooner. This is a pretty quick read. 'Breaking news' is more of an intellecutal read with a rapid paced narration and for the most part of the story, a not so serious female protagonist who is unbelievably bold and quick-witted. One may lose patience in only one area which I need not say.

The novel follows the story of Paula James. She is a former student of investigative journalism. She has been framed for the murder of her own father and named as an Eco terrorist by a bad cop. Can she escape the accusation and prove she is innocent? The murderer’s plan is to kill her too. However, she escapes unscathed. She has information about the methamphetamine creators and where they operate in their country. She can’t trust even the FBI with this news and her father in a letter has strictly warned her to stay out of it and not to take things in her own hand.

I loved everything about her and was thrilled to find out what curve ball life throws at her next, how she is going to handle them. I must compliment the author for portraying a sassy female protagonist who is not frightened even at the sight of biggest setback. This makes the read light-hearted. I also wondered if she didn’t have friends in high places like her Emmy award winning journalist, David Van Pelt, things would have gone awry and she will be struggling to come out of the testing period. Her friend Hailey and her ex-boyfriend also help her big time in the novel to find out her father’s killer.

Danger follows Paula James at every corner she turns to. She uses her alias Ellen Templeton and has a complete makeover. She cannot hide herself for so long. Her pet dog, Petey is the only closest companion she has as her family. The cover image of the novel says, it’s a romantic suspense, I should say there is no such thing as romance in the book with an exception of one or two scenes which by the way is subtle. There is certainly a physical attraction between her and her friend Van Pelt and it is not explicitly written.

I want to know everything about her and since this is the first book in the series, the author hasn’t revealed much about her past. We know that her mother died of cancer and her father in order to save her, made unwise decisions that eventually killed him and put his daughter’s life under threat. Number of murders happen in the backwoods region, if they don’t find the master brain behind the production of methamphetamine, they will kill her if she didn’t unmask and put them behind bars.

The journey Paula undertakes is not easy. Will she come out as a winner in spite of the odds? There is a catch. If she cracks the case, her chance of getting a job as an investigative journalist in her choice of company is guaranteed. To make matters complicated, she has a rare disease which she has to tackle. Hopefully, in the next book, we may know a lot about her disease and her past I think. Sheriff Trent Welsh’s story was sad and it is similar to Paula’s father. Like Paula says, what you sow you reap, he deserved the punishment. There is a mystery involving the person who is behind the murders and the drug trafficking. The author has maintained the suspense quotient untill the very end and this is something I commend her for.

A gentle heart by Christie Logan

My review
A Gentle Heart
A gentle heart is quiet an interesting book. This is a very short novel containing just 100 pages (Kindle edition) and I have to say, the story captured my full focus from the start. Not even a dull moment. The female protagonist reminds me of Cinderella. She has a foster mom who treats her like shit when she has to be worshipped for all her love, care, patience, kindness and respect. I was like, why not she leave her?

The story is about Alex’s unforgettable love how it blinds him to do the unthinkable. He is a good guy actually but who is never willing to accept he is wrong. He is filthy rich. A triumphant real estate agent but a failure in life, his girlfriend dumps him for a fitness instructor." A fitness instructor in gym shorts, can you believe it?” He gets angry whenever he thinks about it. This also hurts his ego and he wants to take revenge on her to satisfy himself somehow at an important meeting as she is also a real estate agent hence will be present. He doesn't realize what an asshole he is. He is unaware of what true love means and how evil his thoughts are. Claire has her reasons for her change of heart which is genuine and he doesn't pay attention due to the fact he has fixed his mind already that they are a perfect match for each other.

Successful as he is, he is the kind of son, all mothers would want but not all woman wish to have as a boyfriend. He is a loving son at the same time not the guy who will love a woman the way they want to be loved. Money minded girls will swoon over him and he doesn’t have a brain of his own. Holding a four years degree and an MBA doesn't help, he never agrees to look at the other person’s side of the story or perspective when it comes to him. This is when he meets Tyffanie and he is immediately drawn to her politeness and looks that makes her stand out from other women. He makes a move to spend time with her for only reason.  Did he succeed in that mission?

Tyffanie is innocent and naïve. She sees everyone she meets with a rose tinted glasses including men. She has suffered at the hands of the mean girls and boys before in school but she keeps being herself sticking to her moral principles without deviating from it. There must  be a limit to a person's tolerance level. After knowing the hidden motives of people especially men, she feels sickened. Devaluing of herself always comes naturally to her. She is insecure, lonely at heart and she is not what you call confident under her own skin. Watching other women, she wants to get inspiration. She wants to feel respected and termed as classy in the society. Seriously, she doesn't know her self-worth. From an young age, she was belittled by her foster mother.

The book is an emotional read. Women are inconsiderate to her and evil men like Simon, act friendly only to bed her. Yet she is very trusting of people which makes her very vulnerable. When the situation demands her to get angry, she is passive or gives a cold stare.  I couldn’t put myself in her shoes in the long run. I pitied her.  I loved everything about her except her self-effacing behavior and her level headed attitue in the most difficult scenarios. She wants to be protected by a gentleman who will make her feel safe where many men are indecent and rogues. When it comes to her job, she is indeed bright as a button and beyond ambitious enough to start her own business. She knows stuffs. Her dreams are simplisitc that is to have a small, warm and cozy home.

There are lot of things to be admired in the book. It is a decent read-no steamy kisses and sex. Alex, usually a very stubborn man softens and melts his heart for lovely, Tyffanie. When she loses all the rounds in a game foolishly thinking he would feel sad if he doesn’t win, I could feel how much hardship she would have encountered in her life looking after the kids in her foster home although the character is just fictional. Slowly and steadily, he falls for her . Furthermore, he is not sure of his feelings or say doubtful she is really his soul mate. His mother's part is an integral part of the story.

I wasn't able to like Alex's character because of his impatience and always wanting to have only the best things in life. When the story progresses, his behavior precisely around Tyffanie who he is after for one thing alters, from the bottom of his heart, he treats her like a treasure.  He is down to earth and gentleman like . This book is a very good read. Must be read by all men and women. You can learn about abuse of power by authority, life of an unlucky foster kid, a glimpse of breast cancer survivors hardships, gossipmongers and a few more.

Devicaas Hair Cleansik review

I must admit, I used to be a girl who is not obsessed with beauty so much and buying such products was the last thing on my mind. I have never wasted unnecessarily on dress including. However, I realized that I can’t stay like this forever. Before, it didn’t make sense to me going to beauty parlor very often but today I feel the need to look good and be awesome. If my overall look is neat and tidy why should I waste on buying dresses than I already have? I have come to an understanding that wise buying brings greater benefit in the long run.

Appearances do make an impression on a person whether it is on a professional level or a personal level. It is the first thing people immediately notice especially when you are in friends circle or family circle even if people don’t admit to it.  The people around me did advise me a lot but I was not the kind of person who gave respect to their opinions. Yeah, who cares its kind of late for me to realize about my concern towards my look. I just turned 27 this year and I hope it’s not a bad age for wasting money on beauty products that are worth my time. I should say, it is my laziness and stinginess that made me to ditch the thought of buying products that enhances my look.

I wanted to start with my hair so I bought Devicaas Hair Cleansik (Cleanser for controlling hair fall & Dandruff) because dandruff indeed affects the health of my skin and body to an extent. I simply loved their product descrption on Amazon. Thus I bought it. I used to have a very thick hair and when I studied in school, I didn’t really like it and I felt it looked ugly though nobody said anything about it except few were openly in awe of my hair. This is definitely not intended for a joke. I really had very thick hair and after going to college by walk and travelling in buses during the afternoon in the tough climate, the volume of my hair got reduced and I would say my hair looks thick even today but not as before. Though I don’t want my hair to return back to normal as this much hair is enough for me but I want it to look smooth & silky. It’s every one’s wish, right?

What is my hair type?

Straight & dry

On wet hair. Shake well before using it. I used it after shampooing my hair like a conditioner but my advice is, the cleanser alone is more than enough as it contains fragrance that I loved and the nourishment it gave to my hair.

How much quantity should we take for a rinse?
I took just about four drops of the cleanser and I have to say, it was more than enough. I couldn’t believe my own eyes after seeing the lather it formed. I cut my hair to shoulder length so I will be using only two drops of the cleanser every week.

What is the expiry date?
3 years from the date of manufacturing.

What is the cost of the product?
Currently, it is Rs.200. If you can get it for cheap at any store, you can try.

Other important points to be considered
  • This is not a cosmetic preparation.
  • It is environment friendly.
  • It is not tested on animals.
  • It is an authentic Ayurveda product.

My verdict

The product indeed cleanses the hair well but also I feel it dries the hair a tidbit when overused. So limiting the quantity and time taken to leave the lather should be noted down.
