A YA thriller, with strong dystopian undertones and a kickass protagonist, taking you on a knuckle ride through a disintegrating Bombay City.

A cop willing to do anything to save the city he serves.
A delusional doctor bent on annihilation.

When Ruby Iyer's best friend is kidnapped by the despotic Dr Kamini Braganza, she will do anything to rescue him. Anything, including taking the help of the reticent Vikram Roy, a mysterious cop-turned-rogue on a mission to save Bombay. The city needs all the help it can get, and these two are the only thing standing between its total destruction by Dr Braganza's teen army. As Bombay falls apart around them, will Ruby be able to save her friend and the city? Will she finally discover her place in a city where she has never managed to fit in? And what about her growing feelings for Vikram?

My review

When I was approached for a book review I was a bit hesitant about whether or not to accept it.The primary reason, it’s a series and I have developed a dislike towards it.I have read many series before. It’s just that I so want to know the ending which is unlike a stand alone novel, it cannot be found in series.I have to wait for months to read next one in the series and years for the climax.

Fortunately, "The many lives of Ruby" Iyer was different.Yes, it’s also yet another series. But the effect it had on me , the satisfaction of reading it gave me, kept me on the edge of my seat. When I said different, I really mean it.For your information, I am eagerly waiting for the next book in Ruby Iyer series because Ruby’s character managed to capture my heart. Her character is unusual. You will not see such a strong teen type in any other novel. She is abnormally brave. The narration was a bit disappointing though, I didn’t wish it to be like that.A slowdown is necessary. The start of the novel was pretty boring as I read more and more pages, it grabbed my attention. It was hard to put down.

There were this unwanted distractions in the novel which has a negative impact upon the readers.I felt some parts were over exaggerated in the beginning.Dr.Kamini Braganza introductory scene was quite filmy.
I have never been to Mumbai, the author through her writing gave me a chance to visit the place. Now about the story........

Ruby lives her life all by herself, as she puts it, she doesn’t want to depend on anyone. She is independent, courageous daredevil who has a slightly peculiar view of the society, meaning, she doesn’t think like normal people do.Her best friend is Pankaj. His character is that of a geek.Whenever she feels sad, disappointed with the world, she leans on him.Occasionally, her mother’s background voice echoes which I suppose is her imagination in order to get comfort from her mother for she is lonely.

Ruby’s life cannot be said hunky dory. Her life takes a grand new turn, when Pankaj is kidnapped by Dr.Kamini Braganza. She has to fight to save her best friend in danger. How she is going to save him?She not only have to shoulder responsibility to rescue his best friend within five days, she also have to save the city, Mumbai from the madness of Dr.Braganza and her teen army. She is willing to go to extremes.Nothing will stop her now. With the help of a young cop, Vikram, she begins her journey to save Pankaj and the city. Will they both able to do it for their love of the city?Read the book to find out.

A fast paced, action oriented suspense thriller with a touch of mystery. On the first impression, I really couldn’t guess what’s the book is all about. The cover image was very inviting.Even it has the ability to hook the readers and I guess you feel it too.

Rating 4/5

Disclaimer I received the book in exchange for an honest review.
