When Brittany takes Jolie’s haunt fishing to get him out of Jolie’s hair, he mysteriously disappears. Brittany isn’t sure how she’ll tell Jolie she lost her stupid ghost. Jolie thinks her dead best friend Drew has finally crossed over, but Brittany knows better. Just before Drew went missing, he revealed why he hasn’t hitchhiked to the afterlife, a secret Brittany swore she’d take to the grave.

Book Description

Sixteen-year-old Jolie Livingston’s closest and only friend Drew is this really hot dead guy, and it bites that the self-absorbed princesses at school cannot even see him. That’s right she can communicate with the dead. It’s the living she has trouble with. She and her mom inherited this awesome crib in Plymouth, MA. It’s quite a step-up from the homeless shelter in New Orleans, but there’s a catch. They can’t afford the past due mortgage, so Jolie’s working on that.

She starts a ghost hunting business called Ripsters. Somehow she’s managed to recruit Brittany, a glamour SAP smothered in pink, and a techie allergic to ghosts. Brit actually thinks he resembles the R&B singer Chris Brown. All that pink has clouded her vision. They both have special talents Jolie’s hoping will be useful to their venture. Right now, they’re working for a family in need of major therapy due to a dead guy with a hole in his head.

Excerpt from the book

A Wiccan wearing black leggings, boots, and a Lycra top sways over to us. Her hooded partner follows closely behind her.
“Brittany Howland and Jolie Livingston, I presume?” She proffers her hand. The nails are painted crackle red with tiny gems glued to them. “I’m Jolie,” I say with some trepidation. She points a long slender finger at Brit. “Is that your friend Brittany?”
“Yes. That’s Brittany Howland.”“I’m Virginia Corey, and this is my partner Rowan Howe.” Rowan pulls back her magenta hood to show full lips painted carnation pink and studded with rhinestones. Her honey skin and black eyes with silver flecks suck me into her mysterious aura that glows the color of her lips.
Brit pinches me so that I jump. “Any relations to the Salem witches?”
“Yes, we’re both proud descendants,” Virginia says in a sultry voice.
They remind me of the sirens who lure ships to their doom. The swamp witches spoke of sirens often.
“Mrs. Howland summoned us,” Rowan finally speaks. Her nails match her satin cape. She uses a long finger to brush back a lock of hair from my eyes.
My skin crawls at the thought of being sucked into their webs. “I doubt she could’ve done that.” Not in her current condition anyway.
“She told me she did,” Brit says with confidence. “We thought Miss Grogan and Libby were the Twisted Sisters, but apparently, we were wrong.”
Rowan snorts. “Those bumbling psychics couldn’t conjure the dead out of a paper bag.”
“You’re the Twisted Sisters?” I ask, though it makes perfect sense seeing them. Brit’s mom had told us to contact them on Ripsters’ last case. And why don’t they like Grogan and Libby?
“We are indeed.” Virginia indicates for me to show her my hands. “Interesting palms.”
She grasps them. When we physically connect, she violently shakes her head, and her eyes roll back into her head, so only the whites show. This has happened to my mom a few times when she summons the dead. I try to jerk away from her viselike grip.
