Quintal's Return by Nadine Christian

Quintal's Return
Print Length:211 Pages
Publisher: Eternal Press
Publication date: Aug 1, 2013
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance

Book Description

A new job, a new love…and someone out for revenge.

Hotelier Kate Quintal and her sister Jen are hired to run a new luxury hotel on Pitcairn Island. Anticipating only the hard work that running the new facility would entail, a burgeoning romance with the burly and handsome Bryce Brown is the last thing she expected. With a new love and the success of the island’s new tourism endeavor, life seems sweet.

So, why are things suddenly falling apart? Who is trying to sabotage the hotel, and why? Kate finds herself fighting, not only for her job, or her heart…but her life

My review

Quintal's return by Nadine Christian is about Kate and Jen Quintal, two sisters who return to Pitcairn Island, their mother's hometown, only to run a hotel. Jen is happy about leaving New Zealand but Kate, on the other hand seems not so interested in the place as it has barely around eighty people living here. Hence, she lands here with no hope and no expectations on her part. Now her survival solely depends on how well the people of this small Island welcomes the two of them as well as their brand new hotel.

To me, everything in the novel felt good to be true. The characters especially was a real spot on. Even the word "perfect" will not suffice it. Very few people, and yet very likable. The way in which they help out one another with no regrets and expect nothing in return was very sweet and heavenly. This also tempts me to ask Nadine Christian whether these people are for real?

In this story, Kate and Bryce make quite a couple but I needed a strong reason to believe why he broke up with Celia in the first place. Her jealousy towards Kate almost felt right at that moment. It was her bad intentions and false attitude (I mean Double face)I think gave me a quick view of her not only ugly but a more than disgusting heart. We can also tell she is the only rotten apple on this small Island. When I reconsidered her beautiful, stunning looks and her young age, what she truly lacked was that unconditional love. I can't help except pity for her.

Nadine has already made me once fell in love with this Island before in her first novel "Remembering Love", and I am so pleased to say this continued in this novel also. Quintal's return started off rather slow, then it blistered off like anything and it didn't lose this pace till the end of the story. It is a very touching tale of not only two hearts but three hearts, and yes,  it's a triangular love story with a happy ending.

Rating 4.5/5

My expectations from the author: No more Pitcairn in her next novel. It's not like I didn't like Pitcairn(I know that is where she lives), it is just that after living twice in that place, thanks to her,  I would love to see a new Island with a whole new set of people.

Author Ritu K.Gupta

Today, I am so excited and at the same time very thrilled to interview Author Ritu K.Gupta who has written an extraordinary novel called Awakening colors. I read this book two months ago by chance and it was a very rare opportunity because she herself sent me this book for review purpose. You can read my review of the entire book here.

For those who know nothing about her, a little introduction. Ritu K. Gupta was born in India and has lived and worked in Canada for the last 25 years.

You can find her on Twitter~Goodreads~ Website~Google +

Me:Hi Ritu K.Gupta , our readers are very much interested in learning more about you. So can you tell us a bit about yourself ?

I come from a beautiful little town – Dehradun - nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India.  This used to be sleepy little town known only for its prestigious educational institutions and ancient temples.  Now, of course, it has changed a lot and become a bustling metropolis.
For the last 25 plus years I have lived in and around Toronto, Canada.  Today I live in a northern suburb of Toronto called Woodbridge.  I work in downtown Toronto and write as often as I can.

Me: Who is your inspiration and how did they inspire you to write your first novel?

My late father is my inspiration.  He was a writer too and always encouraged our creativity.  My first writing was inspired by him.  He told me a story about his dad, which I rewrote with a great deal of literary license.  He loved it.

Me: How did you feel when Awakening colors was published?

I felt driven to write my next book :)

Me: I loved Pari's portrayal in Awakening Colors. Can you tell us  from where  did the idea come from?

I had an issue with my sight for a few days.  Things were a little blurry.  Reading or other normal activities were not possible and I had to use my imagination to keep myself entertained.  I started imagining that the blurs around people and things were not really blurs – that they were the echoes of the past and omens of the future.  I spent hours imagining actual pasts and futures because the present was a blur.  This is how the Pari’s character was born.

Me: Your top three favorite quotes from Awakening colors.

“Whatever is, IS.  It doesn't grow bigger, richer or more successful if you believe in it.  Similarly, it loses nothing if you don't.  Only you gain – only you lose.”

“There is something wrong with this conditioning that takes the individuality out of the individual and turns him into unthinking, unfeeling, unmotivated and lifeless little dolls of plastic.  We trade our capacity for action and become mere action figures.

We don’t outgrow those dolls of childhood, we become them.”

“An artist sometimes feels this way – at the point when he has captured something that is greater than its reality... when it is larger than its promise... when it is more precious than its value.  When he can take his imagination and give it reality in the fantasy that he creates on his canvas.  When that fantasy comes alive and can tell its own tale without saying a word – magic can happen.”

Me: What do you do when you are not writing?

I think,  Besides working and writing, I like to do some gardening and a whole lot of reading.  I am also fond of cooking and keep fit by walking.  During the summer, I walk a lot more obviously.  In the winters, I use my home gym to keep healthy.  No matter how busy I may be, I always devote at least one hour to some pure physical activity – be it walking, gardening or something else.

Me: This might be a tough question but I want your honest answer. Who is your favorite character apart from Pari and why?
Arche.  His darkness, powers and multiple motivations fascinate me.

Me : (He is my favorite too. Although I think he is a bit too old for Pari.)

Me: When will  Awakening colors #2 be published and what can we expect from the same?

Becoming Colors is now finished and gone through editing.  I’m just putting the final touches on the package and it should be available as an Advanced Review Copy by the end of August.

Me: Do you have any message for our readers?

Read Awakening Colors.  It has dimensions and depths that you will enjoy exploring and it may just… awaken your own colors.

Thank You so much, Ritu K.Gupta for agreeing to this interview. I was immensely surprised to see the new cover of Awakening colors on Goodreads, yesterday. It fits the book perfectly and I am sure our readers enjoyed  having you in my blog as much as I did. We can't wait to see what Pari has in store for us in Becoming Colors. My best wishes.

Release Day Blitz:Crossing Paths by Melanie Stinnett

The crossing paths of friendship, family, love, and loss are often complicated. June Deckert and Caroline Smith sparked a friendship in college that carried them through graduation. Although they are complete opposites in every way, they have spent the last four years inseparable. That is, until now. June finds herself falling for a man who seems unattainable.

As she works side by side with him on a new media campaign, their feelings for each other come alive. But when his actions start to speak louder than words, she wonders if she’s missing something. Meanwhile, Caroline is fighting against her feelings for a recent acquaintance, and she decides to keep her new love interest a secret from June.

Overwhelmed by these new emotions, her moods change swiftly, swinging up and down like a yo-yo. While June and Caroline try to maneuver their way through new relationships, Caroline starts lying to June to protect her from a truth that threatens to break her heart and tear them apart. In the end, Caroline’s deceit will test their friendship, and June will have to decide if her chance at love is worth putting her heart on the line.

I’m not sure why I did it, but I got up two hours early, took an extra long shower, made sure my hair cooperated, and put on my good makeup. Okay, that’s a lie. I know exactly why I put so much effort into getting ready.

Today, I am supposed to see Cohen. Not only am I supposed to see Cohen, but we also have plans to go out to dinner. Once again, I’m unsure about what he wants to discuss, but this time, I’m trying not to make any assumptions. Also on the agenda, I hope to not injure him or myself while we’re spending time together. I walk into the office with my chin up and a big smile on my face. If he is already here, I want to look like I’ve been fine. I sure as hell don’t want him thinking that I’ve been moping around and pining away for him since last Friday morning.

Making my way through the maze of cubicles toward my office, I see no sign of him. I let out a sigh as I step through my door. I place my workbag next to the desk, and I turn to glance at the clock. Something moves in my peripheral vision. It scares me enough to make me jump back, causing me to fall into my large potted plant-tree-thing in the corner. To avoid hitting the ground, I sit cockeyed in the pot. My face is covered in limbs and large green leaves. Peeking through the human-eating plant, I can see Cohen sitting on the comfortable sofa with one hand held over his mouth.

I don’t hear any sounds, but from the looks of it, he’s laughing. For some reason, my usual standoffish self takes a holiday. I launch myself up from my seat in the pot holding the plant, and I take brisk steps toward him. “What are you doing in my office? Do you enjoy scaring the crap out of women and causing near catastrophes? Or is it just when you see me?” His eyes grow wide, and those sexy wrinkles beside his eyes fade. Thank God. I don’t think I could hold on to my angry attitude if he kept smiling. “Mr. Hargrove wanted me to tell you that we’ll be meeting in the conference room at eight thirty. I have to leave by the end of the week, so we need to get started on the rest of our project. I came to tell you, but you weren’t here yet, so I made myself comfortable. I’m sorry if I scared you.” “Right. Okay. Well, you can go now. I’ll see you at the meeting,” I say, turning toward my desk.

With my shoulders back and head held high, I walk over to my desk chair and sit. Looking back at Cohen, I give him the meanest stare I can muster. “See you there.” He stands to leave, but then hesitates as if he wants to say something else. His mouth is open, but then he bites down on his bottom lip, holding back. “Did you need something else?” “Actually, I was just going to tell you that unless you enjoy the feel of sitting on bark, you should probably find a mirror and wipe off your skirt.” You have got to be kidding me! He walks out of the office with the wrinkles by his eyes reappearing.

Author Bio

I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was very young. Some of my fondest memories from childhood are of spending time with my mom or grandma reading a good book. Over the years, it never crossed my mind that writing my own novel would be an attainable goal. After reading several independently published novels by Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover and others, I decided I needed to give that dream a chance.
When I’m not reading and writing, I enjoy spending time with my three favorite guys: my husband and my two little boys.

Song for Papa Crow by Marit Menzin

Song for Papa Crow
Hardcover:32 pages
Publisher: Schiffer Publishing Ltd
Publication date: July 28th, 2012
Author: Marit Menzin
Genre: Children's fiction

Book Description

Little Crow loves to sing, and Papa Crow loves his song. But when Little Crow shares his crow songs with the other birds at the big old tree, they laugh and scatter. Maybe the Amazing Mockingbird can teach him to sing songs with the finches, flycatchers, and cardinals and help him make some friends. But Little Crow should be careful what he wishes for... Using Mockingbird's tip, Little Crow quickly becomes the most popular bird on the block. But, in a moment of danger, he learns that singing someone else's song can have terrible consequences and that his own voice and his father's love is of the greatest value. Paired with colorful collage illustrations, this inspirational story is complemented by fun facts about North American birds and their sounds.

My review
This book was excellent. When I was a child, I remember liking this one particular story written about crows and when I had a chance to read this book, I didn't want to miss it.

Song for papa crow by Marit Menzin is about a little crow who wishes it could sing beautifully like all the song birds. No matter how hard it tries, the other birds laugh at him. His papa is the only one who convinces him that he is a good singer and encourages him to sing   further more.

Once his papa crow gets them tickets to Mockingbird's show, he feels so happy. He gets an idea about asking Mocking bird to help him out with his singing.

After too much pestering, Mocking bird agrees to his request. With his new voice, now little crow becomes a hero to other birds. There is a great twist to the story here. The little crow lands himself in trouble. As Papa crow doesn't recognize his own son's voice, he is not able to save him. Finally, when he regains his old voice, he is saved by the entire group of crows. This was very thoughtful.

Overall, the moral of the story is well said by the author. All the children below 8 years will love this book especially for the spectacular illustrations and the fascinating tale about this little crow. This story is also a must read by all teenagers and adults because it teaches about friendship, jealousy and love. The fun facts about some of the famous birds found in North America are add-on.

Candy and the Cankersaur by Jason Sandberg

Candy and the Cankersaur
Kindle edition:32 pages
Publication date: June 18th, 2012
Publisher: Self published by author
Genre: Children's fiction

Book Description

This is the sweet and funny tale of a young girl named Candy and a Cankersaurus Rex! Candy receives a dinosaur as a gift and is determined to train him to be a good pet.

My review

Candy and the Cankersaur by Jason Sandberg is a very fast, easy read. I finished reading it within one go as the book is short.

This book talks about Candace Courtney Wellesley Wellington aka Candy who gets a rare and extinct Cankersaurus  as a gift from her rich father. He has previously gifted her a lot of things but he knows Candy doesn't want any of those except to spend some play time with him. Unfortunately,  he can't. So he gifts her a special  companion, a young dinosaur to play with her.

She happily welcomes him and trains him to be good,  not to bite anything or anyone. Then her jealous, trouble making neighbor boy enters into the picture. He robs her Cankersaur and sells it to the circus.

Candy struggles to accept her cankersaur as lost. Her worries make chucky's heart melt.

After all the bad things he has done, will he be able to help her save and rescue Cankersaur from the circus he sold it to?

How are they going to free him without anybody's help?

The  illustrations of this book are a visual treat. All the children under ten years old will definitely enjoy reading it for the story +the pictures.

Verdict I loved it. This book is dedicated to all children who love dinosaurs and also for grown-ups who don't know what bed time moral stories to read next to their little ones. Be prepared they can ask you to buy a Cankersaur. Lol.

Author Interview
Tell me a bit about yourself. What was your childhood like?
I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We have three great children—two grown and graduated from college and one still in high school. My family and my writing are my two priorities in life.

I love to travel. That has been a great bonus with writing. I’m so excited to travel and meet readers. It is a very exciting time for Mr. Jeff and me.

My childhood was a long time ago. I was raised by a single mother who did her best. I always wanted brothers and sisters. I’m blessed with siblings from marriage, but I basically grew up an only child. I swore I wouldn’t do that to my child...thus three!
As you're also a novelist, who was your favorite author when you grew up and why?

I wasn’t much of a reader until I had to read “The Incredible Journey” for a report. It was the first time a book held me captive. My favorite novel of all time is “Gone With The Wind”. I honestly fell away from reading while my children were little. It was John Grisham who brought me back. I love thrillers. I love trying to figure things out and being surprised.  Since then, my interests have broadened—Romantic Suspense—Erotic—Psychological Thrillers... I enjoy a wide range.
Do you have any exciting stories about your latest novel Truth that you think will be of readers interest?

When I wrote Consequences, I did not plan on it being the beginning of a trilogy or a series. I thought it was a standalone book; however, my readers wanted to know what happened next. To be honest, so did I.

Tony and Claire wouldn’t leave me alone. I thought about them constantly. I needed to learn the TRUTH of their story. I mean, did Claire really love him? Did she only go on with their relationship because of Stockholm syndrome? What about Tony? Why would he do what he did at the end of Consequences? Were Claire’s consequences planned from the beginning? How do their ancestors fit into the story? I had SO many lingering questions...the only way to learn the answers was to sit down and write.  I can just say...after surviving the Consequences—everyone NEEDS to learn the TRUTH

What is in your TBR pile?

OMG! It is a mile long! Currently, I’m reading the final book of the Sookie Stackhouse, Charlene Harris Series. I’ve read them all and feel obligated to know how it all ends.  E.K. Blair’s Fading is on the top of my TBR list. I met her briefly at Book Bash. Her book has done remarkably well for her first novel. I’m looking forward to it! There are SO many more...I need to disappear for a month and lose myself to reading! That would be heaven.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers, like me? What is something that you learned as an experienced writer, that you wish you knew before publishing your first book?

Ha ha! I love that you consider me “experienced”—I don’t. I consider myself new in this amazing world. That said, I’ve learned a lot in the short time I’ve been in the writing world, and I continue to learn more all the time! Just last week I was in Atlanta at the RWA national meeting. I walked away so inspired by the successful authors, I quit my job!

What I’ve learned personally, is to write what you love—write what you know—write what you want to read. You aren’t alone. If you enjoy writing it, someone will enjoy reading it. (and some won’t—but that’s all right).  I’ve also learned that there is an AMAZING network of authors who are incredibly generous with their knowledge. All you need to do is ask.
At RWA I learned I need to write—write—write! The truly successful authors are producing books at an amazing pace. That is why I knew I needed to leave my dental hygiene job. It wasn’t an easy decision.  I loved my coworkers, dentist, and patients, but I just couldn’t do it all anymore. I decided writing needs to be my priority.
